Update: Tag Soup and The Holier Grail
Welcome to the revised MacNimble.com website. It's a bit of tag soup at the moment while I improve the layout and functionality. Code Nazis need not write me scathing emails; it will not remain this way.
The Holier Grail
A while back, before heading to Africa for ten months, I'd developed a multi-column, switchable, accessible (blah blah blah) layout for use in web design. I'm tweaking the final version of that and it will soon be posted on TheHolierGrail.com. If you'd like to be notified when it's complete or if you're desperate to have the current version, send me an email and I'll zip one off to you.
To clarify: While I acknowledge this is a bad practice (especially for a web developer),
I am formally announcing that THIS SITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!
What's a MacNimble?
My name is Bill Brown which means...I am not alone in this world. In
addition to having a father named Bill Brown...I also have a brother
named Bill Brown. There's three of us in one family. Imagine how
many there are on the internet. The sheer abundance of "Bill
Browns" on the internet and in the world meant that I would have
to find an alias to use for my online dealings.
Enter Jack MacNimble.
Years ago, while working at The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, I played a Scottish candle stick maker named Jack MacNimble (insert groan here). Right around that time (1999, I think), I got my first website. I used MacNimble as the alias and lo and behold, it stuck.
Is it sad that there's two pictures of Leelu and one picture of Jessica on my site? I just can't tell anymore. ;)
What's a Bill Brown, then?
When Bill Brown (namely me) isn't acting or teaching or writing or
feeding pecans to his pet squirrel Leelu (yes, a real pet squirrel --
more photos soon), he's doing freelance web
design. He might also be admiring
the beautiful photography
of his lovely and talented girlfriend Jessica Weinberg (yes, a
real girlfriend -- more photos soon).
OK, so what IS he then? He's really just some guy who spends too much time drinking coffee and working on the computer. He does look kinda cool with Leelu on his shoulder though, don't ya think?
OK, where IS Bill Brown?
In the spirit of "Where's Waldo?" or "Where in the world is
Carmen San Diego?", I am currently preparing to return to the village of
Moka on Bioko Island, a small island off the west coast of Africa in Equatorial
Guinea. Try to fit that on a business card.
Jessica and I are working for the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Program ( BBPP - bioko.org) where we'll be continuing our work developing the Moka Wildlife Research Station.
